But many of us are unaware of the fact that facial can be done even at home. The steps for home facial are as follows:
Step 1: Soak a soft towel into herbal tea liquor and press it onto the face, neck and shoulder. This should be done quite a number of times to open the facial pores.
Step 2: Apply cleanser onto the face in circular motion with a piece of wet cotton and then clean the face with a soft towel, soaked in lukewarm water.
Step 3: Apply toner all over the damp face, neck and shoulder with another piece of cotton. Avoid using toner around the eyes.
Step 4: Now massage and apply mask according to your skin type (whether oily, normal or dry).
Step 5: Finally apply moisturizer. It is always recommended to apply moisturizer on damp skin for maintaining humidity.

For oily skin, the best facial packs are as follows:
1. Brandy facial, which contains two crushed strawberries, two teaspoon of brandy, two teaspoon of powdered bread, two teaspoon of fuller earth and a drop of rosewater. It gives instant glow to your face.
2. Fruit Facial, containing, one cucumber, half teaspoon of lemon juice and egg white. This mask would soften your skin.

Some of the home made facial packs for dry skin are as follows:
1. Honey facial, which include, one tablespoon of honey, an egg yolk and one teaspoon of olive oil. It is highly effective as a natural home made moisturizer.
2. Revitalizing facial, having one smashed banana with one tablespoon of honey and orange juice as per requirement. It refreshes the skin and makes it glow.

The natural facial pack for normal skin is Aroma facial, which is a wonderful facial pack. It brings glow to the skin and makes the skin looks attractive. For the facial mask, mix half teaspoon of milk powder, two drops of lemon oil and one drop of cider wood oil. Mix fuller earth and rose water to make the toner and for the moisturizer, make a paste of non-perfumed moisturizing cream with lavender oil.

Ayurvedic treatment for dark under eye circles

Dark circles are a common beauty problem. Ayurveda is based on the idea that a life and lifestyle of harmony is the basis for optimum health. It can be said that where there is harmony there is health and where there is disharmony there is disease. Ayurveda is the science of creating harmony between a person and their environment.

It is well accepted that stress is the greatest threat to the well being of people. Stress weakens the immune system making the host (you and I) more attractive to the multitude of pathogens present in the world. As the strength of the host diminishes, the ability of the microorganism to penetrate its defenses increases. Stress plays a role in the onset of just about every disease people face from the common cold to heart disease. Not only is stress invisible, it is created by the person who is affected by it. This realization helps people understand that just as they have the ability to create the experience of stress, they also have the ability to create the experience of peace of mind. Ayurveda, and its sister science Yoga are a path to personal power helping people learn how to gain control over the mind. Once in control, a person is no longer the slave of their thought process but rather its master.

A lifestyle based in harmony is a stress –free lifestyle. Ayurveda applies its principles to both the mind and the body. Though the practices of meditation and yoga, Ayurveda helps a person expand their perception of themselves and how they relate to the world around them. While so many people are plagued with fear, anger, anxiety and / or depression, Ayurveda helps people to come to the realization that life can be and is beautiful!

Ayurvedic lifestyle begins with an understanding who one’s constitution. This is the inherent balance of the three doshas (biological energies) determined at the moment of conception. Each person’s constitution defines their uniqueness. Ayurveda understands that nothing is right for everyone and everything is right for someone. Ayurveda is non-dogmatic. Each person’s path toward health and harmony are is unique. Ayurveda is the path of finding out what is right for the individual. This path includes learning to live harmoniously through each of the five senses.

Hence, through diet, aromatherapy, color therapy, sound therapy and touch (massage) therapy along with yoga and meditation, Ayurvedic practitioners slowly guide their patients back to living in harmony with their true nature. Success on this path takes time and patience but pays great rewards. Along the way, Ayurvedic practitioners utilize their vast knowledge of herbalism to support the process and allieviate suffering. Stress reducing herbs are called nervine sedatives and include herbs such as valerian root, jatamamsi, shankha pushpi and thousands of others found throughout the world. More importantly, the Ayurvedic pharmacopia includes an understanding of rasayanas or rejuvenatives. These special herbs build up the bodies resistance to stress and increases its endurance. These herbs are especially beneficial to those who are highly sensitive to stress. These herbs include ashwaganda, bala and amalaki and many others.

According to Ayurveda, the greatest factor in a person’s sensitivity to stress is a substance found within all cellular tissues and the mind. Ayurveda calls this substance ojas. Ojas is the essence of the immune system and provides the mind with both stability and contentment. Ojas is produced by the body as the body digests nourishing foods. Hence, a nourishing diet combined with excellent digestion is the key to building ojas. Ayurveda places great emphasis on proper digestion. This includes selecting the proper foods for a person’s constitution as well as eating them properly. Long term problems with digestion and elimination deplete the body of ojas. This is known to work by drawing blood circulation and increasing the biological energy to the area where it is applied. Additionally castor oil also draws away the lodged toxins out of the massaged skin. A daily gentle massage of facial skin with castor oil, improves circulation and removes impurities, thereby maintains the tone of the skin and prevents any wrinkle formation.
Coconut Oil
The key point in the prevention of wrinkles is to keep the skin soft and moist. Dry skin is more prone to premature wrinkling. Recently it has been discovered that Virgin Coconut oil has a molecular structure that helps in its easy absorption into the skin. Therefore, VCO when massaged to the skin makes it soft and supple as well as helps in rejuvenation. Regular use of coconut oil for face massage before going to bed prevents the wrinkle formations and also keeps the skin glowing and fresh. If you have an extra dry skin you can also drink virgin coconut oil to maintain the skin moisture.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera a miraculous plant used as a natural treatment for a number of ailments all over the world. For wrinkles, apply aloe gel to the whole face at least two times a week. You can also use the fresh lump of the plant, just cut the leaf, scoop the lump and apply to the wrinkle prone areas. It helps to remove any dead cells from facial skin thus promotes radiant, glowing skin and maximizes moisturizing effectiveness. Using a handful of baking soda with some warm water as a natural and possibly cheapest facial scrub prevents dryness and removes dead cells. Long term use keeps skin youthful and free from wrinkles. You can also use it as full body scrub.
Sesame Oil
Sesame oil is an effective antioxidant, rich in vitamins and minerals and helps to restore the elasticity of skin. Its molecular structure helps its penetration deep into the skin, so that it can nourish and detoxify our skin at a deeper level. For the prevention and cure of wrinkles sesame oil can be used either alone as night facial massage but preferably it can be mixed with olive oil or sweet almond oil to enhance its anti aging effects.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is well known all over the world due to its anti aging properties. As an easy home remedy for wrinkles, you can simply prick a Vitamin E capsule and empty its contents on your face. Just spread and gently massage. Repeat once a week. This promotes skin rejuvenation and hence not only prevents premature wrinkles but also cures age induced wrinkling.
Sea Buckthorn Oil
This is relatively expansive oil that has been used from ancient Greek times for the treatments of skin diseases and digestive disorders. Clinical trials and recent studies have shown that Sea Buckthorn oil when applied externally is effective in the healing of skin damage from radiation or the sun, promote tissue regeneration, and reduce age-induced skin wrinkling and premature skin aging due to malnourishment. Antioxidants present in Sea Buckthorn effectively fight against wrinkles, dryness, and other symptoms of aging or of neglected skin. When applied on the oil is properly absorbed and quickly assimilated into the skin. If you can get pure oil at home, a regular facial massage would be the best home remedy to prevent and cure wrinkles.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Dandruff/ S. Dermatitis

Here are certain natural remedies for seborrheic dermatitis. Although there is no scientific proof of their effectiveness yet they are used for centuries for this purpose.

WHITE VINEGAR/APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

1. Apply white vinegar directly to the scalp, about one cup of undiluted vinegar, and let it stay for half an hour. This will cure itching scalp and dandruff.

2. Create a mixture of curd, lime juice, cider, vinegar, and amla juice and apply to hair. This helps to cure seborrheic dermatitis.

3. Taking two tablespoons of vinegar daily has a pronounced effect. It improves dryness and works best when combined withincreased intake of water.

BEET ROOT

1. Beet root crushed in henna paste is good in preventing dandruff and hair fall when applied on head.

2. Beet root juice mixed with cider vinegar and ginger juice is very helpful in treating dandruff.

LIME AND COCONUT OIL

Take coconut oil and mix with juice of two lemons. Heat it naturally by placing it under direct sunshine for ten days. Now store it in a glass bottle. Apply it for two hours before shampooing. This is a natural cure for dandruff.

THYME RINSE

Thyme is reputed to have mild antiseptic properties that can help alleviate dandruff. Boil four heaping tablespoons of dried thyme in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes. Strain the brew and allow it to cool. Pour half the mixture over clean damp hair, making sure the liquid covers the scalp. Massage in gently. Do not rinse. Save the remainder for another day. This is a natural treatment for seborrheic dermatitis.

HERBAL OILS

As seborrheic dermatitis is due to excessive oil production by scalp glands, hence oily and greasy products are not recommended, an occasional warm-oil treatment may be helpful. It helps to loosen and soften dandruff scales. Heat a few ounces of olive oil on the stove until just warm. Wet your hair (otherwise the oil will soak into your hair instead of reaching your scalp), then apply the oil directly to your scalp leave on for 30 minutes. Then wash out the oil with a dandruff shampoo. Instead of olive oil, jojoba oil can be used.

GREEN GRAM POWDER

Mix two tablespoons of this powder in a cup of yogurt, apply for some time and then wash with a mild shampoo, an anti dandruff one if required.

FENUGREEK SEEDS

The use of fenugreek seeds is one of the most important remedies in the treatment of dandruff.

Garlic and oil of oregano are also excellent for fighting dandruff.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://healingwithayurveda.blogspot.com/2008/05/ayurvedic-remedies-for-dandruff-s.html' title='Ayurvedic Remedies for Dandruff/ S. Beautiful as it is, it needs care, if it is to last. People with normal skin start showing signs of age and wrinkling sooner than others. Daily cleansing, toning and nourishing is the adequate care for normal skin.

Oily skin: In this kind of skin, oil producing glands are overactive. They produces more oil than is needed, which oozes up, giving the skin a greasy shine. The pores are enlarged and the skin has a coarse look. This kind of skin also suffers from blackheads, pimples & acne. Oily skin needs special cleansing to keep the pores unclogged.

Dry skin: Majority of the people have dry skin. Your skin lacks both sebum and moisture. It looks fine textured, transparent, patchy and fragile. There are many factors which affect dry skin and make them even ore dry. For instance, washing with soap & water not only removes grime but also the natural oils that protect the skin. Exposure to the sun, air- conditioners and heaters also take their toll. Dry skin always needs moisturiser which increases the water content of the outer layer of the skin, giving it a soft, moist look.

Combination skin: This type of skin has a greasy area, while the rest is dry or normal. The forehead, nose and chin, i.e. the T-zone, may be greasy and the rest dry. Combination skin are very common and are one of the most frequently misunderstood and mistreated skins. This type of skin requires separate treatments for each area. However both the dry and greasy area needs moisturising.

Rules of Skin Care

Cleansing: It is necessary to clean skin and the pores to remove dirt, dust, excess oil, salt, and waste coming within and coming from outside the body. Wash your face and other skin of body with plenty of water to get it cleaned.

Toning: Skin toner should be utilized to revitalize the skin and to get it a proper complexion. Toning improves blood circulation in the skin and helps skin tissues to remain tight and firm.

Nourishing: It is very important to maintain the natural oil of the skin to make the skin lively. Different vitamin skin cream could be used to nourish the skin. A lot of nourishing cream could also be used.

Moisturizing: All living things require moisture. Skin gets dry and looses its gloss. To give it the real look moisture should be applied from outside in the form of cream or lotion. It is better to use moisture just after bath. As someone gets older he / she requires more moisturizing.

Taking care of your skin

If you want a good skin, the most important thing is to take care of it daily. Make it your habit. Your diet also plays an important part, so does getting adequate sleep and exercise.
If you like your skin to be young forever, follow these basic rules:

1. Cleanse your skin twice a day with products suited to your skin type.
2. See a beauty therapist regularly after the age of 25
3. Learn to treat the skin according to its type.
4. Avoid sun.
5. Avoid smoking.
6. Drink 8 glasses of water daily.
7. Use a face mask once a week.
8. Exercise regularly.
9. Remember that a regular care & routine pays you back.
10. Neglect accelerates ageing more than anything else.

The drink of life

Add more water to your life

1. Drink at least 8 glass of water a day
2. Mix the fruit juice of your choice with mineral water for a healthy soda.
3. Is there a waterfall you can get under, or a brook to swim in? Don’t pass up the opportunity.
Great for blood circulation.
4. Sinking into a bathtub has a tranquilizing effect on the mind. Throw in mineral salts if you can.
5. Use water as mouth freshener along with a sprig of mint, honey and lime.
6. Make a compress for dry, flaky, irritated skin using water. Use gauze dipped in tolerably cold water. Apply on affected area and leave on for 10 minutes. Instant relief.
7. Sebastian Keipp, who wrote My Water Cure, recommends using water as a healing power to cure disease. "Walk barefoot on grass or immerse your legs in cold water up to the knees. This increases resistance to illness."
8. With water, remember, more is always better.

Daily care for dry skin in winter

First thing on your routine should be cleansing. Most of us use some kind of make-up on our skin, so cleansing is very essential. A cactus cleanser with a lemon base is the best. Cactus is ideal for rehydrating the skin. The cleanser must be massaged gently, into the skin, paying particular attention to the creases of the nose under the chin, neck and ear lobes.

Second step is toning of the skin, toning removes the last stages of cleanser and dissolves dirt. It is good if you use skin toning lotion. A skin tonic, with mint and honey base would be excellent for delicate & parched skin. Skin tonic braces the skin and tightens the pores, especially under the eyes and on the jaw line.

Third step is nourishing the skin, if you want to prevent it from dryness. Every night, a nourishing cream with preferably an orange base, should be used. If you feelthat your skin is very dry, use a second application. A nourishing cream with vitamin E would work wonders.

Supplying moisture to the skin by use of suitable cosmetic aids is the only way to prevent the skin from drying up.

Tips for Smooth Skin

Home beauty recipes and remedies have been around for centuries. Remarkable remedies were discovered purely out of necessity. Over a period of time, many home remedies have proven to be effective and natural, therefore healthy! Making your own beauty products costs a fraction of what you pay for over-the-counter preparations.
Keep in mind any allergies or sensitivity you may have to some ingredients; such as glycerin, lemons, strawberries, eggs, etc. Check with your doctor or dermatologist if you are not sure you can use certain ingredients.

Pamper your skin with these face packs

1. This is an excellent remedy to get rid of those ugly acne scars. Blend the sandalwood paste and rose water and apply on the scars. Keep it overnight and then wash it off with cold water the next day. This does wonders to your skin!

2. Lemons also have exfoliating properties: rub half a lemon on your face with a hint of sugar granules to remove dead cells and lighten a tan. You can also rub on hyper-pigmented areas like elbows to lighten them. Mix with a little cucumber juice to make a natural astringent. Condition your hair with the juice of one lemon mixed with a glass of lukewarm water or get rid of dandruff by rubbing your scalp with hot oil and lemon juice.

Ways to achieve a Smooth Skin

1. Mash the bananas along with milk and then apply on your face. Wash it off after 20 minutes. This makes the skin smooth and supple.
2. Blend the egg white and honey well and then apply on the face. This makes your skin smooth and helps to reduce wrinkles.
3. Blend turmeric powder with milk and apply on the face. It removes the tan and helps to reduce the facial hair. Scrub it off with a good face scrub and then wash with cold water. You can also keep it overnight.
4. Mix oatmeal along with curds and tomato juice and apply on the face. Keep it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. It helps to remove the tan and lightens the skin.
5. Rubbing ice cubes on the face tightens the pores and increases blood circulation.

Lemon as a beauty aid

Start your morning with a combination of half a lemon of juice and an orange, squeezed in hot water, sweetened with honey.
For weight watchers & those on a reducing programme, lemon is excellent.
